The Alan B. Davis Gallery features a collection of paintings by renowned Western artist William Ahrendt, covering three centuries of Arizona’s wildly glorious history. The giclées on canvas and their historical narratives were originally featured as a special 16-part “Cavalcade of History” series in Arizona Highways magazine. The Tubac Presidio Museum will display “Sonoran Stories in Plants” - a botanic art exhibition inspired by agrarian traditions including Native American perspectives of botany and botanic art as expressions of a circle of attunement. Featuring graphite and watercolor illustrations by Sorcha (Dorothy Clare Massalski) accompanied by stories, legends and scientific information about plants from the Pimeria Alta. Twice weekly bird walks start at the east end of the campground at the birding kiosk at 9:00 am. Bird walks are free, but State Park admission of $10 per car ($3 per person) or an Annual State Park Pass is required. There is no pre-registration. Walks generally last about three hours, though you may turn around and return at any time. The distance covered is approximately one mile on a flat area, except for steep steps leading down to the lake level. Bring binoculars and water. For more information about the bird walks, call the Visitor Center at 520-287-2791 or 520-820-5101.

Summary: To create a new twist on the art walk concept, galleries and studios throughout Tubac will be erecting outdoor tents for artist demonstrations and meet-and-greet opportunities. Rogoway Turquoise Tortoise Gallery has pulled out the stops for the event, hosting live appearances and demonstrations by eight prominent painters and sculptors.

On Saturdays there is a Twilight Tour just before dark. Participants must call the Visitor Center to get the time of departure; it varies with the sunset times. The sunsets can be spectacular from the lake. Seeing the shoreline from the water is a delightful experience.

Under the musical direction of vocalist Joe Bourne and featuring various genres of jazz, the program will include piano, bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, vocalists, trumpet and a salute to our Armed Forces in honor of Veteran’s Day. Saturday & Sunday Pontoon Boat Tours: two Avian Tours, one at 9:00 am and 10:15 am. These tours go to the east end of the lake. On board is a birder to talk about birds seen.

At 11:30 am the Lake Discovery Tour goes to the west end of the lake. The guide on board will point out geological formations, discuss the dam which created Patagonia Lake, and give you a brief history of the area.

On Saturdays there is a Twilight Tour just before dark. Participants must call the Visitor Center to get the time of departure; it varies with the sunset times. The sunsets can be spectacular from the lake. Seeing the shoreline from the water is a delightful experience.

Popular speaker Jack Lasseter shares the fascinating story of the Spanish Presidios on the northern frontier of New Spain, of which Tubac was one of four in Arizona. The first in a series of talks by Mr. Lasseter on Arizona history, including Father Kino, Apaches, Arizona Outlaws, and Women on the Arizona Frontier. The topics are inspired by the “Cavalcade of History” art exhibit currently on display, featuring 16 paintings of scenes from Arizona’s history by renowned Western artist William Ahrendt. Twice weekly bird walks start at the east end of the campground at the birding kiosk at 9:00 am. Bird walks are free, but State Park admission of $10 per car ($3 per person) or an Annual State Park Pass is required. There is no pre-registration. Walks generally last about three hours, though you may turn around and return at any time. The distance covered is approximately one mile on a flat area, except for steep steps leading down to the lake level. Bring binoculars and water. Guided, reserved-seat bus tours are conducted Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through November. Tours originate at the Visitors Center, which opens at 8:30 a.m. A video presentation begins at 9 a.m. The bus leaves the office at 9:30 a.m. and returns by 3 p.m. Reservations required by calling 520-670-5707. Reservations are on a first-come first-served basis up to the 30-visitor maximum. Children under six years of age are not permitted. Tickets are purchased on the day of the tour. Tour participants should dress warmly, bring lunches, and be prepared for moderate exertion at an altitude of 2626 meters (8550 feet). Persons with cardiac or respiratory problems should check with a physician about traveling to this altitude.

A guided tour of the “Old Town” section of Tubac with Alice Keene. Explore the original adobe buildings and discover the rich heritage of Arizona’s first European settlement. Learn about early Native American inhabitants, Spanish explorers, mining booms, Apache attacks, kidnappings, duels andother episodes in Tubac’s colorful past. Tour starts at 10:30am - meet at the Park’s Visitor Center. Allow 1-1/2 hours for the tour and bring walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat. $7.50 fee includes admission to tour the Presidio Park. Tour is limited to 20 people; reservations encouraged.

The Tubac Presidio will host a special exhibit featuring paintings with historic themes by Tubac artist Walter Blakelock Wilson (1929-2011). Wilson's portraits, landscapes and architectural imagery have made their way into several museums and over 300 corporate and private collections. His historical paintings feature Native Americans, frontier personalities and pioneers in aviation, automobiles and railroads. The exhibit is included with park admission $5 adult, $2 youth (7–13), children free. Open daily 9am-5pm through April 30, 2013.
